An evening in Siem Reap, Cambodia

Finally the opportunity I had been waiting for for years was upon us. After a comfy 8 hour bus ride through Cambodia's simple and picturesque country side, we arrived in Siem Reap.  The city was nothing like I had pictured, yet much more!

We checked into our lovely, perfect hotel and set out on our first look at the temples of Ankor Wat. We decided to go for a one day pass, but that allowed us to get into the park at sunset the day prior. More on my mind than the beauty of the area was the throngs of tourists from every walk of life.  (as well as the sweltering heat we didn't experience in Vietnam).   We intended on seeing the sunset from atop a temple but it wasn't quite as majestic as we had imagined.

Afterwards, we visited the thriving town center with its countless restaurants, shops, and foreign tourists of all ages.  I can't remember a tourist city or town with so many people.  December must be a busy time for tourists, from all over the world (but mainly Europe).
