Uijeongbu Budaejjigae 의정부 부대찌개 본점

Winter means I just want to curl up in a ball and do nothing.  It happens every year without fail.  Maybe that's why I haven't updated this blog in four months?

Maybe I'm at a lack for inspiration?  Not really, I have plenty of posts and photos to share...who knows what's up with me.

I think I've gotten to the point that there's so much to say that I'm procrastinating on getting started, but I might as well start somewhere!

It's no secret Buddaejjiage is probably my favorite food. Something about that perfectly hearty and spicy broth, the chewy noodles, and all the processed meats I wouldn't normally eat...it just gets me every time.  Especially this time of year.

Over Lunar New Year break (end of January) my man and I trekked to Uijeongbu (1.5 hours or so by subway) to visit our friend Brandon.  What I had most on my mind (besides visiting our friend of course!!) was checking out "Buddaejiigae Street".  Apparently this guilty pleasure originated in the area, and there were tons of restaurants serving up the stew in this area.

It was cold and rainy out, but I was determined.  When we arrived we had no idea which one to go to, so we decided upon the one where people were standing outside the doors smiling and begging us to come in.  Works for me!

I must say, it was the best I've ever had!  My favorite is Nol Bu, but this was even better.

I didn't know what 본점 meant...Google translate tells me it means "flagship"!  Does this mean we stumbled on the original!?  I'm not sure...but I was very pleased with the experience.

I recommend it highly!

  1. your pictures make me want to try it! I never had the guts to taste it when I was there--I guess that is something to add to the list for May!
